Rado Vidosic Dies at 64 After Cancer Battle


Melbourne City, Brisbane Roar and Brighton coaching legend Rado Vidosic has passed away at the age of 64 after a battle with cancer, the football world has confirmed today. 

His son, former Socceroos midfielder and current Brighton & Hove Albion Women’s head coach Dario Vidosic, shared the heartbreaking news on social media, writing:“I am heartbroken to share that my father has passed away after a battle with cancer. I will carry your wisdom in my steps and your strength in my heart. Forever my hero. Love uTata (Dad).” 

A Lifelong Football Career

Born in Osijek in what was then Yugoslavia (now Croatia), Rado Vidosic moved to Australia in 1988, first playing before becoming one of Australian football’s most respected coaches. 


He enjoyed a long and influential coaching career, including: 

Assistant and coaching roles at Brisbane Roar, Sydney FC, Melbourne Victory, and Wellington Phoenix.

Leading Melbourne City Women to a premiership-championship double in the 2019-20 season.

Guiding the Melbourne City men’s team to the A-League Men Premiership in 2022-23 and a Grand Final appearance.

Most recently working in England as head of coaching for women and girls at Brighton & Hove Albion, alongside his son Dario. 

Tributes Pour In

Clubs across Australia and England have paid tribute to Vidosic’s influence, character, and contribution to the sport. Melbourne City released a statement noting his “enduring legacy” and the deep respect he earned within the club. 

Brighton’s management also expressed sorrow, saying Rado was “an integral part of our staff, team and club” and that his impact would be long remembered. 

Legacy

Beyond trophies and titles, Vidosic was widely admired for his leadership, mentorship, and warmth. His death has been met with an outpouring of condolences from the football community, both online and in official club statements.
